Named Star Wars Miniatures the company Hasbro offeres a new series of collectors figures and games supplies.
The models are designed as game figures as well as collectors items. Sold seperately is the games system, which comes in an adveture games style. The models serve as an helpfull visualisation of the games progress on the game grid.
But they can also simply be collected.
The
AT-AT Inperial Walker is one of the most impressing models from the Star Wars movies, although he appears very short, he has made his way to the fans hearts and still keeps his fascination.
The Hasbro model is a static model only. It is about 1/72 scale (not shown on the box unfortunately) and comes completly assembled and painted perfect.
Coming straight out of the box the model seems almost perfect and doesn't need to be modified in any way.
The AT-AT is about 33cm high, 40cm long and 12cm wide! The model is screw assembled and snap fit mostly and gives the modeller the opportunity to take it apart and redo it, if he wants to.

The AT-AT is screwed to its simple black base plate with four screws. The Base is devided into squares for use with the game grid.
Included in the so called Colossal Pack are a  full color stat card, a double sided battle grid, a counter sheet and a rules and screnario booklet as well. The regular game needs to be bought seperately.

The 48 Special Models Base Plate for the AT-AT

48 Special Modelsoffers a self developed relief base as an alternative to the simple and less attractive base included in the box. This new base gives the model a completly different appearance and brings it closer to its movie origin.
This resin cast base is cast in a single piece and weights about 1 kg. It gives the model more stability and decorates it also! The new base will be screwed instead of the original to the AT-AT's feet. It can be interchanged within seconds and makes a games figur become a real collectors item.

The 48 Special Modelsresin base is an unpainted, white resin cast piece, which can be painted any way you want it.  An assembly and painting instruction can be found at the end of this page.

The base is available from our webshop as a single item or in a set with  the AT-At Walker!

Assembly and Painting Instruction:

The resin bas should be prepared for painting by washing off the mould release agent with thinner or benzine. Eventually sand the surface with a fine sanding paper to make the paint stick better. After that the whole base will be primed with white primer from a spraycan. Use a white colored plastics primer, if available. If not a matt white enamel basecolor will do too. Acrylic paints need a plastics primer first!

After drying detail work will follow. All surface located machine parts should be painted black first. After that detail painting with polish metal colors and drybrushing may follow in the well known way. We recommend a metal base color on which color can be added for detailing. Which colors to use depends on your privat fun.

on our sampleall amchine parts were basecolored black, contured with metal polishing paint at the edges and by use of green-yellow, red and whit colors a former paintjob was simulated. The impression of an exploded spacecraft was intended. The cockpit has become red seats and the engine section in the back was painted with jet exhaust metal polishing paint.  All parts are drybrushed with matt white afterwards, to simulate drifted snow. Even the spacecraft was shot down only some minutes before a lot of snow would have been blasted which settles later onto the parts.

Finaly the whole base gets a wash of gray oilpaint. Gray because the effect may simulate only the lightly shades  on the snow. A black wash would be much to dark in this case. Additonaly the white adds a haze of drifted snow to the darker areas.
After all has dried well (this may take a while, because of the oils. It may be fastened up a bit by use of an hairdryer), The sidewall will be painted black by use of a matt black color pen. It helps to paint the edges without having to use masking tape.  Paint also the lower side of zhe base edge too. This prevents from lighting up areas on the edge later!

Haveing dried again a piece of self adhesive velour decoration foile is cut out, which covers the whole lower side of the base. This will give the final touch to the base and prevent scratches on tables and shelfs. The base may be use as a pattern for this. But it is much easier is to cut an rectangular piece and simply paste to the base. Before doing this you have to decide if you want to interchange the bases late (i.e.for gaming) with the original one or if the new base will be permanent. In the last case the AT-AT will be first screwed to the base and then the foile will be attached. In the first case attace the foile before screwing the AT-AT to the base. Cut out the screw holes then an screw on the model.
In each case it makes sense to cut the edges after the foile was attached with a cutter!

Who wants the luxery version cuts a rectangular board to fit and routes the egdes any shape he wants them to be. Spraypaint the board in matt black and screw or glue the base to it. The AT-AT should be screwed additionally to bothe base plates then, by use of longer screws.
Pimped like this a simple games figure becomes a high class collectors model for your Star Wars collection!
